Barkley Custom Cues
Maker of pool cues from 1991 to present in Joplin, Missouri.

Jim Barkley´s family was in the vending business for over 25 years before Jim started making cues. He was exposed to pool when he worked for the business as a kid, repairing tables and maintaining the bar cues. He learned how to put ferrules and tips on cues in the 1960s. Jim had learned the tool and die business before opening his own business, a machine shop. Jim owned the machine shop for about 20 years and he had as many as 35 employees. When he sold the business, he had free time to return to some of the bars and pool rooms he had worked in as a boy. He noticed there were a lot of cues in need of repair so he started doing repairs part time to have something to do. It wasn´t long before he was making his own cues and no longer fully retired.
Jim now builds cues in his new one-man shop that he moved to in 2004. It is a 50 by 100 foot building with five lathes, a Bridgeport mill, two pantographs, table saws, sanders, polishers, band saws, etc. All work is done by hand, without the aid of CNC. Inlays are done on manual pantographs. Jim is also well known for repairs and restorations and he is not afraid to take on cues that need serious work. He most enjoys creating one-of-a-kind custom cues built to the specifications of the customer. Many of his cues have intricate ringwork and inlays, and come with ornate custom joint protectors. He can make his own veneers if the color he is looking for is not available. Several high end Barkley cues were featured in the 2004 Pool Cues Calendar. Jim also makes his own two-piece bar cues from scratch.
All Barkley cues can be easily identified by the "Jim Barkley" script logo with the year of completion engraved on the butt cap or signed on the forearm. Jim is a voting member of the American Cuemaker´s Association.
Barkley cues are guaranteed for life to the original owner against construction defects that are not the result of warpage or abuse. If you would like to order a new Barkley cue, or have a cue that you would like Jim to repair or restore, contact Barkley Custom Cues
